A classic fave, the hoodie jacket has a long history that dates back to Medival Europe. Christian monks wore tunics with cowls, while outdoor workers wore capes with hoods, known as chaperones. It is believed that these were the earliest known forms of the hooded jacket that we love so much today. The word “hood” is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word “höd,” meaning hat.
By the turn of the 20th century, the style resurfaced and was popularized by the famous sportswear brand, Champion. During the Great Depression in the 1930s, Champion came up with the first-ever hooded sweatshirt.
