How long does it take to make custom patches?
You’ve got the design. You’ve got the vision. Now the big question: how long will your custom patches take from idea to “wow”? Short answer: most orders move from approved design to finished patches in about 2–3 weeks, but your exact timeline depends on a few moving parts—artwork, patch type, quantity, and approvals.
Below is the no-stress, step-by-step timeline we follow at Craft Clothing so you can plan with confidence (and look sharp right on schedule).
The typical timeline (and what happens in each step)
1) Share your idea → Quote & free mockup (1–2 business days)
Send us your logo, size, quantity, and preferred backing (iron-on, sew-on, Velcro®, adhesive). Our team prepares a clear quote and a polished digital mockup—free. This is where we align on size, colors, borders (merrowed vs. laser-cut), and finish.
2) Digitizing & sample (2–4 business days)
We translate your art into precise stitch paths. For embroidered patches, this digitizing step is everything—it preserves fine lines, text legibility, and texture. We then produce a sample (photo approval or a physical piece when needed).
3) Revisions & approval (1–3 business days)
Need to tweak color, coverage, or border style? We refine fast. The quicker the approval, the quicker we move to bulk.
4) Production (7–12 business days for most orders)
Once approved, we run your patches with consistent stitch density and thread tension, apply the chosen backing, and finish edges cleanly. Standard team/corporate quantities typically land here; very large or multi-SKU runs may extend to 2–3 weeks.
5) Quality check & packing (1–2 business days)
Every batch is inspected so your patches arrive crisp, durable, and uniform.
Tip: Add transit time on top of the above. If you’re working toward an event date, tell us up front—we’ll build the schedule backward so you’re covered.
What can speed things up (or slow things down)?
-
Patch type: Embroidered is the classic; woven handles tiny details faster; chenille or PVC may add time for texture or molding.
-
Size & stitch coverage: Bigger patches or high-coverage fills take longer.
-
Backing choice: Iron-on and Velcro® backings add processes; sew-on is simplest.
-
Border style: Merrowed edges are timeless; laser-cut is great for complex shapes but can add a step.
-
Color count: More thread changes = more production time.
-
Artwork readiness: Vector files and clear color calls speed approvals.
-
Seasonality: Peak uniform/corporate seasons can book capacity—order early if your date is firm.
How to hit your deadline (without the scramble)
-
Lock your specs early. Size, quantity, backing, edge, and colors.
-
Send the cleanest file you have. Vector (AI, EPS, PDF) or high-res PNG helps.
-
Approve quickly. Each day saved in approvals goes straight to production.
-
Build a small buffer. A few extra days protects you from last-minute changes.
-
Order all variants together. If you need multiple sizes or colorways, batching them keeps the timeline tighter.
